Room-acoustics research transfers poorly because listening rooms have known source and receiver positions.

Evidence

In sound reproduction we normally do know where the loudspeaker is, and also the seats or seating area—for example monitoring rooms, home theaters, etc. with loudspeakers and seating at fixed/known positions. We also have access to equalization. These are two very different situations. As often happens, research in one domain is mistakenly assumed to be valid in another. — Toole, Floyd E, Sound reproduction- the acoustics and…, 1543
