Regional racial formations follow connected but distinct trajectories

Evidence

By the same logic of relatedness, racial latinamericanization and southafricanization follow connected if not always similar trajectories. Their historical, demographic, conceptual, and material distinctions play out in somewhat different, if overlapping, terms, thematically, in expression, and in the politics of racial inscription and racist implication. The racially mobilized regions of Latin America and Southern Africa accordingly offer useful contrasts, historically and politically. I turn in the following two chapters to each respectively. — David Theo Goldberg, The Threat of Race, 977
