Reading is never a neutral event
Evidence
By learning to read from a critical perspective, students question the perspective presented by the text and decide for themselves their positionality in the world. A critical perspective acknowledges that reading, like all of education, is not a neutral event. Instead of following a script or manual, teachers of critical literacy become advocates for students, helping them to critique their classroom, school, curriculum, society, and their world. β James D.
