Radicals attacked MoMA for co-opting Dada and Surrealist politics.
Evidence
Before that, as if anticipating a sequel, a few score Yippie sympathizers turned up on West Fifty-Third Street, Monday evening, for the Museum of Modern Art’s gala preview of the exhibition Dada, Surrealism and Their Heritage. Their plan was to join art critic Gene Swenson’s Transformation group in demonstrating ideological opposition to the show in its co-option of Dada and Surrealist politics. The cops were there too, complete with helmets, paddy wagons, and sawhorse barricades. So were the plainclothesmen. — J. Hoberman, Everything Is Now, 1210
