Race-based harm requires race-based remedies, not class-based ones.

Evidence

Should there be a poor people’s movement like the kind Dr. King started and that Rev. William J. Barber II valiantly continues? Of course. But that is a solution to a different problem, only some of it intertwined with race. Could reparations for black Americans make it more likely that poor white Americans could also receive reparations in the future? Perhaps. However, when we talk about the history of black people in this country, it is race-based harm, not class-based, and therefore the appropriate solution must be race-based. My uncle Billy the lawyer was targeted not because he was poor but because he was black and “forgot his place.” — Dorothy A. Brown, Getting to Reparations, 549
