Queer theory aims to deconstruct gender binaries, not eliminate them.

Evidence

The opposite argument could also be made: that the elimination of gender difference became the postmodern agenda of queer theory, while the affirmation of women as an identity category is modern in its universalist essentialism. I would argue, however, that the object of queer theory (whether or not it has a ”proper object”; see Judith Butler’s ”Against Proper Objects”) is not that of feminist modernity, to eliminate completely the binary gender differentiation of compulsory heterosexuality, but rather to derealize or deconstruct it by performances of queer subjectivities. Binary gender differentiation, in queer theory, will not disappear but rather will be constantly reinstituted and constantly deconstructed (Judith Butler is the preeminent theorist of the performativity of queer subjectivity). — Marianne DeKoven, Utopia Limited, 856
