Publishing research drafts to subjects as online friends changed how the research unfolded
Evidence
Every person interviewed for this book was contacted in advance of publication, and nearly all of my subjects asked to kept informed about my research as it progressed. To facilitate that process, I periodically posted draft chapters on LiveJournal. There, my 500 ‘friends’ could correct, amplify, or simply comment on what I’d written. Often their comments would provoke multi-sided conversations that gave me new insight into the issues I was exploring. I’ve quoted portions of those conversations throughout this book. — Theresa M.
