Prosperity preachers profited openly while facing churchwide condemnation
Evidence
One of the most infamous prosperity preachers, Rev. Creflo A. Dollar Jr. (his real name!), rose to prominence in the early 2000s, preaching the virtues of faith-driven wealth accumulation. Dollar himself was a walking advertisement for his message, enjoying God’s blessings in the form of “Rolls-Royces, private jets, [a] million-dollar Atlanta home and [a] $2.5 million Manhattan apartment.” Despite widespread condemnation of the prosperity gospel as a “blight on the face of Christianity,” Dollar’s sermons remained popular for their promise of personal transformation and material gain. — W.
