Prosecutorial dismissals show the widest racial-ethnic divergence across groups

Evidence

In Tampa (located in Hillsborough County, Florida), just like in Jacksonville, the overall pattern is fairly consistent across racial and ethnic groups (see figure 4.2). The largest difference was observed for prosecutorial dismissals (nolle prosequi). Compared to similarly situated White defendants, Black defendants were most likely to have their case dismissed by a prosecutor (32 more cases per 1,000). Hispanics, on the other hand, were least likely to have the case dismissed by a prosecutor (15 fewer cases per 1,000 as compared to Whites, and 47 fewer cases as compared to Blacks) (figure 4.3). β€” Joseph Avery, Jim Sidanius, Joel Cooper, Gregory Davis, Amanda N., Bias in the Law, 585
