Prominent evangelical leaders publicly opposed Trump over his moral character
Evidence
Some evangelicals despaired of support for Trump within their own ranks. Evangelicals’ love for Trump was “a disgrace,” Russell Moore maintained, “a scandal to the gospel of Jesus Christ and to the integrity of our witness.” John Piper, too, parted ways with many of his conservative brethren in refusing to endorse Trump. In the days before the election, he denounced “the flagrant wickedness of both party candidates” and refused to vote for either. — Kristin Kobes Du Mez, Jesus and John Wayne, 598
