Presential attention defines human environments as ecosystems of communion

Evidence

The three phenomena evoked above concern less the properties of certain acts than the defining characteristics of certain milieux. In this chapter we are interested in human environments as they are structured by the presential attention of others. The principle of reciprocity, striving for affective harmonization and improvisation practices are connected together within an ecosystem that has enabled humans to ‘communicate’ over the millennia – in the strong sense of this word, often highlighted by Daniel Bougnoux, which has much more to do with communion and care for the community than with the simple transfer of information. — Yves Citton, The Ecology of Attention, 257
