Precision medicine may soon tailor treatment to individual perceptual disorder profiles

Evidence

Although we rarely use behavioral tests to identify retrocochlear disorders, there are cases where such tests are warranted, and an adept audiologist should be aware of the possibilities. There may come a time when additional psychoacoustic tests are adopted in the clinic to assess temporal, spectral, or binaural abilities in listeners. As we move toward precision medicine, it seems that using diagnoses of individual-specific disorders to influence treatment decisions may not be that far away. — Jennifer Lentz, Psychoacoustics- Perception of Normal…, 1773
