Postpolitical depoliticization breeds the angry rejection that becomes antipolitics
Evidence
In the 1980s, Konrad and Havel had protested an excess of politics. Now the angry citizens of the West were protesting its cruel absence, barely concealed by PR campaigns justifying austerity policies. Alex Hochuli, George Hoare, and Philip Cunliffe describe the mechanism succinctly: “The strategy of depoliticization known as post-politics breeds an angry reaction: the institutions of formal politics come to be rejected by citizens. At the End of the End of History, antipolitics becomes the predominant force.” — Anton Jäger, Hyperpolitics, 187
