Evidence
Al-Maqqari was a member of a family from Spain that settled in Tetuan. His compilation of these verse anthologies in the seventeenth century has something of antiquarianism about it, but leaves us in no doubt that poetry continued to be a living reality to Arabic-speakers from al-Andalus. — L.
