The Germans entered the field a little later—German broadcasting in Arabic did not begin until 1938—but when they did so it was with overwhelming effect. This is the first great age of pan-Arab ideology when numerous writers, most of them Syrian or Iraqi, set forth the basic tenets of the pan-Arab program.
