Oppressive cultures face destruction by their own suppressed groups
Evidence
In “The Future of an Illusion” Freud notes that a culture in which the wellbeing of one group in the society is predicated on the subjugation or “suppression” of another will prompt intense hostility on the part of the suppressed. The deeper the hostility, the more likely the disaffected will act to destroy the culture, and in the extreme will reject the very premises on which the culture founds itself. Such an oppressive culture, Freud concludes, neither is likely nor justly “deserves” to perpetuate itself (as oppressing culture, as a state of oppression). — David Theo Goldberg, The Threat of Race, 570
