Only the first row of trees produces significant echo reflections
Evidence
The most important reflections would have been from the trees at the edge of the plantation; very little of the sound that penetrates well into the forest ever makes it back to the source, and if it does it is seriously time-delayed compared to the direct reflections off the first row of trees. β Eric J.
