Oil wealth unevenly distributed fractured Arab solidarity into separate state agendas.

Evidence

These processes continued after the war of October 1973 which, whatever its military outcome, was a clear political victory for the Arab states. The resulting gains were confirmed and extended by the power of oil and of the money which oil brought. But the uneven distribution of this new wealth among the Arab states, and their uneven participation in the conflict with Israel, placed new strains on inter-Arab relations. Increasingly, the governments of the individual states pursued their separate interests and purposes, sometimes to the point of open and even of armed conflict between them. — Bernard Lewis, From Babel to Dragomans, 931
