Nietzsche’s genealogy makes reason itself an expression of the will to power.
Evidence
The Left Hegelian critique, turned toward the practical and aroused for revolution, aimed at mobilizing the historically accumulated potential of reason (awaiting release) against its mutilation, against its one-sided rationalization of the bourgeois world. The Right Hegelians followed Hegel in the conviction that the substance of state and religion would compensate for the restlessness of bourgeois society, as soon as the subjectivity of the revolutionary consciousness that incited restlessness yielded to objective insight into the rationality of the status quo … Finally, Nietzsche wanted to unmask the dramaturgy of the entire stagepiece in which both - revolutionary hope and the reaction to it — enter on the scene. He removed the dialectical thorn from a critique of a reason centred on the subject and shrivelled into purposive rationality; and he related to reason as a whole to the way the Young Hegelians related to its sublimations: Reason is nothing else than power, than the will to power, which it so radiantly conceals. — Alex Callinicos, Against Postmodernism, 267

- XREF: This three-path schema — Left, Right, Nietzschean — maps directly onto the reader’s strategic-essentialism research insofar as Foucault’s ‘race-struggle’ genealogy is the Nietzschean path Habermas describes collapsing reason into power.
- DEFINE: Concise statement of the Nietzschean move that postmodernity inherits: reason equals the will to power it conceals.
