Natural bodily rhythms are early time experiences that only become actual through violent repudiation

Evidence

The movement of singularization is now pursued into the domain of ‘natural changes’, three types of ‘differences’ which are ‘at once physical and spiritual’. The ïŹrst ‘alterations’ are inherent in the ‘natural process of the ages of life’. The second set of alterations are linked to the ‘sexual relation (GeschlechtverhĂ€ltnis).’ The third depend on ‘the distinction between waking and sleeping’.
However, because they are simply natural, such alterations have not yet achieved their full measure of actuality. To achieve that will require a prolonged and violent repudiation, where the power of those inïŹ‚uences (something simply given) struggles against that moment of free existence which characterizes the spiritual. In this opposition, subjectivity arrives at its critical moment. — Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel, 341
