National racial histories exceed their borders to shape global configurations

Evidence

In the case of the US and South Africa, the regional influence and global impact of their racial histories and contemporary configurations, if in different ways, go way beyond their narrow cartographical borders. It is this influential reach, more generally, on which I seek to focus and mine for insight in their historical and present-day manifestations. And it is to keep a focus on this trans-statal, if loosely pragmatic, reach that I am using the quasi-analytic category of “regionalization.” — David Theo Goldberg, The Threat of Race, 354
