Muslim rulers offered women and riches to convert Christian missionaries

Evidence

What was common to all these accounts was the strong interest in the fact of polygyny in Islamic marriage. The greater freedom of Islamic law was responsible for some temporary apostasies, as well as for permanent conversions to Islam, among laymen and even Religious. It was usual to offer women, as well as riches and honours, as a reward for adopting Islam, in those cases where a Muslim government sought the conversion of a Christian; this may have been a defensive operation, since in the recorded cases the offer was made to active missionaries. — Norman Daniel, Islam and the West, 763
