Multichannel reproduction progressively masks loudspeaker resonances except low-Q ones.
Evidence
With increasing numbers of channels the resonances which are highly visible, and audible in mono, are progressively less well heard. With the exception of the major problem in this loudspeaker, a low-Q resonance, they are also not accurately revealed in the steady-state room curves. There is more to this story—as will be seen, it is not just the number of channels, it is also the program content of the channels. — Toole, Floyd E, Sound reproduction- the acoustics and…, 522

- QUESTION: Why is a low-Q resonance (broad, gentle) the exception that remains audible rather than narrow high-Q ringers? Worth chasing the mechanism.
