Most early camgirls treated webcamming as a passing creative phase, not a career

Of all my original research subjects, only two (Ana Voog of AnaCam and Anabella of AnabellaCam) still homecam full time. Lisa Batey has now resumed broadcasting on the streaming site Justin.tv after a long hiatus. My other camgirl subjects have either stopped homecamming entirely, or continue their sites only sporadically. This progression appears to be typical of many camgirls between 1998 and 2003. With the exception of Ana Voog, most camgirls with whom I began my research think of webcamming today less as a lifelong commitment, and more as a creative phase that they entered deeply into for a time, became overexposed to, and then abandoned, to pick it up later as something to be engaged in only when the mood strikes. — Theresa M.
