Most constitutional remedies are simple prohibitory orders, as in the gender-discrimination estate case.
Evidence
In most cases, judges need only order officials to stop their unconstitutional conduct and refrain from it in the future. Thus, in Reed v. Reed (1971), its first major ruling on gender discrimination, the Supreme Court ruled that Idaho (and other states) could no longer give an automatic preference to men over women as administrators of estates, and this sufficed to dispose of the problem. — G.
