Most Americans who accept warming disengage from its personal threat and causes.
Evidence
In national surveys, 64% of Americans believe that global warming is real, but only about half believe that it is caused by human activity. Nor do they feel any need for more information about it. Only about one third see it as a threat to themselves and their local communities, and they do not believe that it is harming others at the present time (Leiserowitz, Maibach, Roser-Renouf, Feinberg, & Rosenthal, 2014). This is not a pattern of beliefs that is enduringly motivating for environmental conservation. — Albert Bandura, Moral Disengagement, 2761
