Moriscos rationally turned to Christian powers because the Turks were too distant

Evidence

We now know that turning northward and seeking Christian allies (Henry IV, Elizabeth of England, William of Orange) in the long run did the Moriscos little good, no good at all, in fact, but the attempted realignment was a rational step. Turkey had left them in the lurch, and in any case was too far, would always be too far away. If anything was to be achieved before it was too late, it would have to be thanks to forces nearer to hand. — L. P. Harvey, Muslims in Spain, 1500 to 1614, 1589
