We know from the Memoirs of the duke de La Force that these alleged diplomatic contacts were not the figments of the imagination of Spanish agents. Henry of Navarre was indeed promised by one Miguel Alam´ı large forces (60,000 fighting men from 76,000 families divided into five tribes!) if only his troops would cross the frontier into Spain and provide the Moriscos with arms.
