Mongol contact revealed Christian-Islamic agreement and unknown eastern Christians

Evidence

One of the first results of this contact between Europe and Asia was to bring out an unsuspected measure of agreement between Christianity and Islam. Of course, as we have seen, this had been realized by a few people quite early in the twelfth century. But in the circumstances of the twelfth century, the points of agreement had not been thought to be specially significant. The second great result of contact with the Mongols was to disclose the existence of large numbers of primitive Christians about whom the West had previously had no knowledge at all. — R. W.
