Mid-room seating is required for full surround envelopment
Evidence
The person seated midway across the room will always perceive good envelopment if the information is in the recording. However, at seats away from center the interaural amplitude differences increase, envelopment is degraded and as the side wall is approached, the side loudspeaker can be localized and the effect is completely lost. — , Toole, Floyd E - Sound reproduction-…, 1606
