Medieval Latin writers recognized Islam’s claim of a progressive prophetic sequence

Evidence

It seems established that writers with any claim to be taken seriously recognised the existence of a prophetic sequence in Islamic belief. This was not necessarily to recognise what relation the Qur’an claimed to bear to the previous revelations. It did come to be realised by several writers that, according to Islam, Muhammad’s prophethood ‘corrected’ the earlier revelations. — Norman Daniel, Islam and the West, 140
