Medieval European polemicists held inconsistent accounts of Qur’anic revelation.

Evidence

San Pedro varies in his suppositions; he implies at one time that a single book was sent from Heaven; at another he makes it clear that revelations occurred over a period of twenty-three years, but does not make it clear when he thought they were collected and written down, whether this was done during the Prophet’s lifetime or after his death. This picture is not altogether integrated with that of demoniac possession. — Norman Daniel, Islam and the West, 1889
