Medieval critics tested prophethood by holiness, miracles, and accurate prediction.
Evidence
In the fourteenth century Marino Sanudo owed much of his supporting material to Pedro de Alfonso; the tests of prophethood were holiness, miracles and ‘an exact observation of future things’. To these he opposed three radical sources of sin by which Muhammad might be recognised as false: concupiscence of the eyes, by reason of robbery; pride of life, by reason of usurped power; concupiscence of the flesh, by reason of lasciviousness. — Norman Daniel, Islam and the West, 414
