Medical expertise enables torture of Palestinian prisoners under Israeli occupation
Evidence
Israeli academia represents the equivalent of the state of extraordinarity in the otherwise general (or ordinary?) rule that is the typical academic world. In other words, it brings the hidden but real potency of academia into plain view, just as sovereign colonial rule makes the state of extraordinarity the apparent norm of domination. As I intimated, Israeli science is instrumental in the maintenance of the state’s grip over the Palestinians, including the medical profession, whose expertise is likewise essential for the torture of Palestinian political prisoners. It is a solid a fortiori argument that if humanitarian medical ethics are routinely violated in the interest of domination, then the involvement of science in the project of elimination is to be taken for granted. — Wael Hallaq, Restating Orientalism, 442 (
