Low sensation level impairs ITD and ILD discrimination even in normal listeners
Evidence
Audibility and low sensation level. Both ITD and ILD discrimination is impaired at low sensation levels for normal-hearing listeners (Dietz, Bernstein, Trahiotis, Ewert, & Hohmann, 2013). Even if sounds are audible, low presentation levels might account for poor performance in listeners with hearing loss on these tasks. The real-world environment also may exacerbate these issues, particularly for the ILD. — Jennifer Lentz, Psychoacoustics- Perception of Normal…, 1581

- XREF: Crucial confound for the reader’s normal-vs-impaired comparison: low sensation levels alone (without pathology) degrade binaural cue discrimination — an audibility-level effect masquerading as impairment.
