Lopez Madera hanged eight suspects and gave the townsfolk sixteen days to leave.
Evidence
L´opez Madera soon let the Moriscos know how he intended to handle his mission: he arrested eight men he thought might be ringleaders and hanged them all. Others arrested were condemned to service in the galleys or were flogged. When the Edict of Expulsion affecting Hornachos followed in September 1609, it was L´opez Madera who was entrusted with the task of putting it into effect. On January 16, 1610, a public proclamation gave the townsfolk just sixteen days to wind up their affairs and leave. — L. P. Harvey, Muslims in Spain, 1500 to 1614, 1715
