Llull conceived a three-age providential history of ignorance, belief, and understanding

Evidence

Along with this structured approach to knowledge, Llull articulates a scheme of history involving three successive ages: an age of ignorance, an age of belief, and an age of understanding. While structurally similar to the scheme of three ages (status) conceived by Joachim of Fiore (and subsequently embraced by spiritual Franciscans), the content and purpose of Llull’s structure of history are his own. — John V.
