Llull’s conversion project was framed as divinely revealed method

Evidence

Immediately following the death of the slave, in the Vita coaetanea, is a revelation: “After this, Ramon went up a certain mountain [Mount Randa] not far from his home, in order to contemplate God in greater tranquility. When he had been there scarcely a full week, it happened that one day while he was gazing intently heavenward the Lord suddenly illuminated his mind, giving him the form and method for writing the aforementioned book against the errors of the unbelievers.” Llull receives a revelation on the mountain, like some new Moses or Muhammad (though the text makes no such direct comparison): God exposes to him a new book, which can be used to bring the inïŹdels to understand Christian truth. — John V. Tolan, Saracens, 1285
