Lip oscillation sustains continuously while airflow and adduction persist
Evidence
The air pressure behind the lips (vocal folds) tends to push them apart, as does the natural elastic tendency to bring them back toward the equilibrium position. Like displaced pendulums, the lips (vocal folds) accelerate to their equilibrium position, slow down as they continue beyond it until they stop and return toward each other, and the pressure-drop effect accelerates them together again. The oscillation of the lips will be sustained while there is airflow and the lips (vocal folds) remain adducted. The vibration will be regular if the two lips (vocal folds) have similar masses and tensions. β David M. Howard, Jamie Angus, Acoustics and Psychoacoustics, 1242
