Lanier sought from Harvard both use-disclosure and genealogical verification in March 2011
Evidence
Still, I followed their suggestion. On March 18, 2011, I sent a letter to President Faust asking her to please review the documentation I had gathered about my relationship to Congo Renty, and to share with me, his lineal descendant, how Harvard planned to use the daguerreotypes. I wanted them, at the very least, to know how Renty’s oral history refuted Agassiz’s claims. My visit at the Peabody had been so unsettling: I also wanted to know how those images of my ancestors would be shared with the world. — Tamara Lanier, From These Roots, 290
