Ken Jacobs ranked Myra Breckinridge with The Birth of a Nation and Citizen Kane.

Evidence

It was not entirely unappreciated. Andy Warhol’s Inter/View put it on the cover of its fourth issue. There is no evidence that Jack Smith saw the movie but in 1970 Ken Jacobs told me, “There’s The Birth of a Nation, Citizen Kane and Myra Breckinridge.” He may have later revised his opinion but, given its extensive interpolation of old Hollywood movies, I don’t think he was kidding. — J.
