Jackie Curtis’s production flooded the stage with anarchic cross-dressed bodily chaos.
Evidence
A girl in a blue robe trimmed with ratty white fur sits on a toilet chewing at her blue-stockinged toe, abandoning the toilet only when an urgent man wishes to put his head in. A chap in bloody shorts who may or not have been castrated eventually acquires a pair of papier-mâché breasts, a fellow in a frock coat sports an enormous and apparently overused phallus, a gypsy in drag batters the heads of her/his fellow performers with a tambourine while mouths and elbows and ankles and hips twitch all about her. — J. Hoberman, Everything Is Now, 1532

- CANDY: The absurdist stage picture — a toilet-sitting girl chewing her toe, a castrated man acquiring papier-mâché breasts — is a vivid, self-contained bit about the era’s avant-garde theater.
