Israel drew Jerusalem’s post-1967 boundaries to engineer a Jewish demographic majority

Evidence

In 1967, following the occupation of East Jerusalem, the Israeli Knesset unilaterally annexed the neighborhoods of East Jerusalem, an act that was immediately condemned by the UN and is considered illegal under international law (Jefferis 2012). Israel then confiscated over 70,000 dunams (1 dunam = 1,000 sq. meters) of land to the municipal boundaries of Jerusalem and applied Israeli law, in breach of international law (Y. Jabareen 2017, 9). The new municipal boundaries were primarily motivated by Israel’s ā€œdemographic concerns,ā€ mainly to ensure a Jewish majority in Jerusalem (Benvenisti 1996; Y. Jabareen 2017). — Nadim N.
