Internalized gendered definitions remain nearly invisible yet still violent in schools today
Evidence
Gendered meanings are so internalized by both men and women as to be nearly invisible. They are normalized and taken for granted. As we will make clear below, such taken-for-granted meanings appear in school texts, in classroom practices, in attitudes and actions expressed in hallways, playing fields, or on the bus. Ultimately violent, hierarchized definitions continue to affect relationships and opportunities for women and men in schools and throughout society to this day, even as they are challenged by feminists, womanists, and pro-feminist men. — Rebecca A.
