Interline ticket contracts legally fuse successive carriers into one operation

Evidence

  1. As need in this contract, ā€˜ticket’ means ā€˜Passenger Ticket and Baggage Check’, ā€˜carriage’ is equivalent to ā€˜transportation’, and ā€˜Carrier’ includes the air carrier issuing this ticket and all air carriers that carry the passenger or his baggage hereunder or perform any other services related to such air carriage. For the purposes of the exemption from and limitation of liability provisions set forth or referred to herein, ā€˜Carrier’ includes agents, servants, or representatives of any such air carrier. Carriage to be performed hereunder by several successive carriers is regarded as a single operation. — Henry M. Hart, Jr. and Albert M. Sacks, The Legal Process, 4088

  • XREF: The ā€˜single operation’ fiction’ for successive carriers parallels the transportation industry materials earlier (ch61) where interline liability rules differed by state and carrier — this fare-tariff convention answers that fragmentation by fictionally uniting carriers. — connects to: Airlines once excluded valuables from baggage liability while still carrying them — Henry M.
