Interiorizing culture requires devouring it as inorganic nature

Evidence

Immanent in the development of the Hegelian concept is this process of formalization, a future it cannot avoid. If spirit sacrifices its own flesh in reducing concrete there-being to a simplified determination, this has nonetheless allowed spirit to appropriate the speculative content. The individual ‘devours’ culture as if it were his ‘inorganic nature’, and then reproduces in his own being that very destruction innate to simplification. This is the only way the individual can interiorize culture. — Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel, 1056
