Interiorization of natural time transforms mere sequence into subjective synthetic unity

Evidence

This interpenetrability of the psychic and the physical has immediate consequences for time. When nature passes over to its second nature, this implies, by the same token, that ‘natural time’ – the simple exteriority of moments linked to one another as if in a pure linear sequence – is interiorized and acquires a totally different shape. Subjectivity, henceforth capable of appropriating difference to itself, now appears as what it truly is: the originary synthetic unity linking its determinations and, at the same moment, putting them into sequential form. When the soul succeeds in idealizing the corporeal, it also gains the power to make itself a ‘simple and ideal unity’, that is to say, to be only with itself. — Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel, 392
