Insider Muslim critics deploy the same culture clash logic as non-Muslims

Evidence

Writing as a young, openly lesbian Canadian of Muslim origin, Irshad Manji’s book The Trouble with Islam soon became a best-seller in Canada. Unlike Chesler and Fallaci, Manji has an insider’s perspective. While addressed to ‘my fellow Muslims,’ however, and ostensibly about calling Muslims to account for their own backwardness, the book is from the beginning an invitation to consider the merits of Jews, Judaism, and the contemporary Israeli regime. The principal means through which we are invited to recognize Israel’s claims is once again culture clash, the notion that Islam and the Arabs who practise it are a fatally pre-modern, misogynist, and tribal community whose shortcomings reveal why Jews must occupy the land and must defend themselves against the ever-present barbarism of the Arabs who surround them. — Sherene Razack, Casting Out, 230
