Inquisition racial categories in the Canaries rested mostly on skin color.
Evidence
We may guess that if the Inquisition in the Canaries made a distinction between the two groups, Moriscos and blacks, such a distinction would be based on little more than skin pigmentation. We might hope for more information about the way of life of the aboriginal inhabitants of the Canaries and of any Muslims who may have lived there, if and when archeological research is undertaken into the late medieval period. Study of burial customs might yield useful data. — L. P. Harvey, Muslims in Spain, 1500 to 1614, 1890
