In structuralist thought the speaking subject is spoken by unconscious cultural structures
Evidence
The culturalists had defined the forms of consciousness and culture as collective. But they had stopped far short of the radical proposition that, in culture and in language, the subject was “spoken by” the categories of culture in which he/she thought, rather than “speaking them.” These categories were, however, not merely collective rather than individual productions: they were unconscious structures. — Hall, Stuart, Essential Essays, Volume 1, 195
